Team News Updates in Sparta

Team News Updates in Sparta

I feel fortunate to truly enjoy the company of all my colleagues. A strong team lends itself to collaboration. In the upcoming year, we are excited to establish processes and practices to make our school more functional and more consistent. We recognize that this will not only help our school, but also help us work more efficiently.

One upcoming change will be to accommodate my extended leave. In order to help facilitate a smooth time away, Mrs. Yllanes will take on scheduling. Scheduling may be one word, but it is definitely a huge undertaking. I am excited that we are going to be collaborating on scheduling during the Spring semester. Mrs. Yllanes is likely one of the most organized people I've ever met. She inspires me to be organized, prompt, and detailed. I have not doubt that the Sanderson community will find a seamless adjustment while I'm away.

As our team continues to grow, we will share more on our blog about all the things we do, and about things relevant to our areas at Sanderson.

Until Next Time,
Mrs. W.

School is Out for Summer, Or is it?

S U M M E R

We have come to the end of another school year. It's hard to believe that a year can go so quickly. Exams start this Wednesday and will end the following week. Students (and teachers) will get to enjoy time away from school for the next two months. The mere thought of vacation from the halls of school makes everyone happy. Yet, just as quickly as the year flew by, the summer months will also. Here are a few reminders for students, parents, and teachers as we all begin to think about summer.

STUDENTS

  • -Be responsible for knowing your grades. There is truly no reason why a grade on a report card should be a surprise. Talk to your teachers and know what to expect before you leave for summer
  • -Ask questions before you leave for summer. Do not wait until July to ask about summer school or a class you need to retake. July is too late. Check with your counselor or administrator about credit recovery and things to get back on track in the upcoming school year.
  • -Remember teachers do not work over the summer. If you call to speak with a teacher, chances are they are on vacation like you. You can try e-mail; however, remember summer break applies to your teachers as well. Try to speak with teachers before summer break begins if you have important questions.
  • -Use e-mail correctly. If you have not already done so, establish a professional and simple e-mail address that you can use to communicate with your teachers. Make your e-mail address simple and easily recognizable by teachers or administrators.
  • -Do not check out totally. Remember summer is a time to rejuvenate, not a time to zone completely out. Check and see if you have summer readings or any other things you can do to get ahead before the school year starts again!

PARENTS

  • -Hold your students responsible. Ask them about their grades, ask them about their exams. Ask them what classes they plan to take next year.
  • -Check the mail, report cards should be mailed home in mid to late June. If you do not see one ask your student, if you still do not get one, call the school. We can provide you with another copy or a verbal read out of grades.
  • -The school will be open five days a week during the summer; however teachers will not be in the building regularly. If you have a specific question for a teacher, e-mail may work best.
  • -Encourage your son or daughter to enjoy the summer; however encourage them to be active and involved in healthy and engaging activities. When students sit idle, watch television, or play video games all summer they have a very hard time readjusting to the school setting in the summer. The "Back to School Blues" in August are very real for some students. Students are much less likely to experience a hard readjustment period when school starts again if they are active and involved over the summer
  • -Student schedules will not be mailed out until August! You can e-mail us questions; however, the county is transitioning to a new computer program, so we are not able to work on schedules until August.

TEACHERS

  • -Set up an away message on e-mail. This is an easy task that provides immediate communication to parents and students that may try to reach you over the summer.
  • -Check your e-mail bi-monthly. Though it's vacation, administration and the county will still use e-mail to communicate with you.
  • -Think ahead! "Back to School Blues" in August are not just for students. Make sure you make the most of your summer by doing things that will help you feel rejuvenated and rested in August. This may look different for each teacher; however, think ahead to what you can do to make your return in August less stressful!

Simply Summer

Make the most of your summer by doing things that make you feel relaxed and peaceful. Time goes quickly, and August will be here before we know it. Enjoy the weather and whatever else makes your summer worth remembering!

Until Next Time,
Mrs. W.
